My family has been here twice in the past couple of months and both times have been poor experiences. First experience: Came with three people, ordered three meals, they only brought two to the table. When we asked where the third one was the waiter said 'Oh my gosh, I totally forgot!' That was a great meal! Second experience: The place was less than half full, we were sat quickly, but waited 20 plus minutes for two drinks and a couple glasses of water. After the waiter finally came by we ordered our food. It took well over 40 minutes for the order to come out and one of the orders was wrong. The waiter came and checked on us one time in between ordering and our dinner just to tell us he was sorry for the wait and that the kitchen was 'backed up.' The two tables that sat down after us got their meals before us...so we translated this into 'Sorry, forgot to place your order.' Horrible experience. Will never be back.

Few things in life make me measurably sad; ASPCA commercials, getting an un-washable stain on my favorite shirt and an AMAZING happy hour now reduced to a somewhat decent happy hour. The latter is Carino's Italian Grill in Commerce. Instead of reveling in the past, I will tell you the new happy hour features $4 specialty beverages (Frozen Peach Bellini and Frozen Italian Margarita), $2 and $3 off wines and draft specials. Some appetizer specials are also included. Used to be better but what can ya do? Food at Carino's is good. I especially love the Skilletini, Jalapeno-Garlic Tilapia and Spicy Shrimp and Chicken Pasta. I have yet to find comparable dishes to these three at any other Italian restaurant. Why I love Carino's...The monthly wine dinners the last Tuesday of each month. This is a four course meal (off the menu) paired with four wines. For a price of $29.99, this really is an exceptional meal. If you decide to try it, you will probably find me there too!

I've used the curbside service a couple times now and that seems to be the way to go - they'll have your order ready in 10 to 15 minutes from the time you call it in and bring it out to your car - there are spaces for curbside right at the front door. I've also eaten in a few times with decent results. The food I've tried so far is ok, but nothing special. Look, this is a chain restaurant doing Italian and it's not like there isn't any competition in Metro Detroit. The one issue I have is their marinara sauce - my guess is, they're going for the fire roasted tomato theme. What ever the case may be, it's just overpowering. I had the Carino Favorites Combo with the lasagna, chicken parm and spaghetti and I also ordered a side of meatballs. Plenty of food here - I made two meals out of it. But again, just ok and the sauce overpowers. The lasagna was the best of the bunch. I've also had the spicy romano chicken - not too bad, but the sauce is really not a cream sauce like I was expecting and I don't know where the spicy is supposed to be coming from - I couldn't detect anything. Unfortunately, they no longer have the Italian pot roast on the menu (or it's not on the curbside menu). Pass on the bread loaf - too bland for me. I've also tried the Sicilian Fire Sticks - ok, but not spicy at all. You can find something decent on the menu though and if you're pressed for time and don't want some crappy fast food, I think the curbside service makes it worth your while.

Just ordered carry out. We live super close so finally decided to try it out. It was pretty bad. We ordered curbside service thinking we wouldn't have to get out of the car but no...so I'm asking myself why the heck did they ask what car I'll be in if they're not even going to come out with my food???!! Our meal came with a small Italian herb bread with oil and roasted garlic. Ordered their specials: Calamari: it was just ok. Nothing special Spicy shrimp and chicken in penne pasta: was ok....a little bland and not one ounce of spicy. :( made me sad. Skilletini with sausage: worst yet. Depressed now. Hardly any sauce. Noodles were barely warm. No flavor but oil. Only flavor you get would come from what little sausage you get. The bell peppers were cut hugely! Like my 8 yr old niece could do a better job. If you like this kind of dish please go try Papa Vinos' sizzlelini. Much better there! Needless to say there were lots of leftovers. I'm going to see if I can fix it tomorrow. We won't be back even if this place is only a mile away. update: I added a can of dice tomato to the skilletini and some garlic salt and some red pepper flakes. Made a world of good. There was actual flavor.

Waiter never brought salad refill and forgot our calamari app. Steak dinner was more like mutilated cube steak with the tenderness of overcook pork chops and tasted like bland chicken. $17 lobster ravioli consisted of 6 ravioli, oily sauce and wilted spinach with that hardened sat-under-a-heat-lamp look. Manager camp's the steak dinner but never acknowledged the uneaten sorry excuse for steak in front of us. I'd pick Olive Garden or even a Costco hot dog before I'd ever eat here again.

Okay,, Lunch is the best time to eat here, it is not crowded, and the food is less expensive for lunch. The Spaghettini with the Chicken is awesome, and the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo is always good.....But I must say the best thing about coming here, besides the bread and the dipping oil, is the Lemon Creme Cake....it is soooo light and fluffy and just plain yummy......

It's a chain....yup, got it. So, take this review for what it is, a review of a chain. That being said....I highly recommend the Italian Nachos with sausage or chicken sausage combo...sometimes ask for extra sauce. The nachos are just like the ones macroni grill had many moons ago. I also recommend the chicken milano.

I don't know how I feel about this place. Considering the ratings on here I definitely felt it'd meet my expectations, AT THE LEAST since I had a feeling it wouldn't exceed them. I placed a to go order over the phone (my boyfriend & I decided on a place fairly late so didn't feel like eating in) & they said it'd be ready in 10 min which it was so there's 1 star for punctuality. The bread they gave us was great, very moist & olive oil mix was good too. But who goes to a place bc their bread is good? Exactly... no one. I had the Chicken & Jalapeño Ravioli. Ravioli was filled with ricotta cheese, but I couldn't taste anything but the jalapeño sauce. They didn't bother to make sure the ravioli was seasoned, obviously they were totally dependent on the sauce's flavor. The chicken was good & the green peppers & tomatoes were good but the whole point of the dish is the ravioli. The other items are extras. I'd say 2.5 stars. & most likely won't be back.

We sat in the bar. We were the only ones in the bar for a good half hour. Ordered an app & 15 min later she came back to take our orders. Brought calamari and it was cold. Had to send it back. Dinner was bland and poorly put on plate from what I can remember from my previous visits. We had to leave the bar and ask another waitress for our bill. I don't know what happened to the management or service here but we will not be back.

First time here with boyfriend. Come hungry! The bread is delicious. We also ordered Italian nachos with chicken and they were different and delicious. Their Cesar salad tasted a bit fishy. It's certainly not fancy-pantsy but it's trying. We sat by their kitchen, which is open viewing. It was noisey in here but tolerable. Our waitress Kelsey was great as well. She kept refills of drinks and bread coming and was polite. Would definitely come again for an Italian fix.

Came here last night with a group of friends. The service was very friendly and prompt, and the bread and oil was great. This is why I'm only giving one star. Zero stars - at 3 AM I became violently ill. Definitely something bland I ate upset my stomach. I feel like I have the flu. Looking back, the interior is tacky and also incredibly filthy. There were crumbs all over the floor and the air smelled of mildew. I've stuck to Carrabas (even Olive Garden) for a reason. This place is awful and needs to change or be shut down.

We ordered carinos for an employees bday at the office . The lunch portions were so small and tasted horrible. This isn't the first time I've ordered from here. The quality of food is awful it tastes like someone grabbed out frozen ingredients thawed them and heated them up. I will never eat there again . I suspect they'll be closed up if they continue with crap food.

Excellent friendly service, we had Makayla who was great. The Italian nachos were surprisingly delicious. Both our main dishes were great and they served the largest piece of chicken I've ever seen in a chicken Parmesan. We will come back for sure.

Came here tonight for the first time with my three boys and they were packed but they had one had one booth left and we were seated immediately! our server brought us drinks right away and some warm bread. we ordered food and it did take quite a while to come out but since we got bread and we had ordered salads it was fine. i got a spicy chicken and shrimp penne it was fantastic! i tasted my son's mac n cheeses and fries they were pretty great. my oldest had chicken fett alfredo he said it was one of the best he's ever had. one of my boys ordered a grilled ham and cheese panini and he said the ham was cold so that was our only downside. we shared a hot lava cake it was AMAZING! 4 drinks 4 meals 2 salads bread and a dessert our bill came to $61 thats a pretty great price for great food and great service

Used to come here a lot. Not nearly as good as it used to be. Sauce was bland and flavorless. Pasta was overcooked and tasted like cheap box pasta. My husband had a different dish and it was equally blah. Seating was worn and not well maintained. Bathrooms were filthy and smelled like urine. Won't be coming back.

Yuck! The service was horrible. The server kept forgetting things. She was slow and unfriendly. It took 20 minutes for her to bring bread, then another 20 minutes for her to bring the salads, then another 30 for our entrees. I'm not super picky but the food lacked flavor. I will not be returning.

I give it my standard high score of 4 of 5 because it is a chain. However, it does seem to measure up in overall quality. You can get either bottomless soup OR salad here. All of the soups are quite good and the salads are good too. The Caesar is decent but I really like the vinaigrette dressing the best. My wife tries something different every time and is somewhat satisfied. I order the same thing every time and am always pleased. I recommend the tilapia over angel hair in a citrus-caper sauce. Not heavy at all. The bread and all refills are non stop. No, it's not authentic but it's decent. We luck out and always manage to have good service. Look for coupons.

Good, but not great. Better than Olive Garden, but is that saying much? This location is busy, but you can usually get a table, unless it's a Saturday night. It's been open for 4-5 years. Wait staff is young, but they are train well, and the menu is not that complicated. A couple,of soups, a couple more salads, pastas and meat dishes. The menu selection has greatest Italian Dishes - spaghetti, parmesans, and marsalas. I can't say there is a specific dish that I order here, the last time was eggplant parmesan. It was good, the eggplant was breaded and it was well cook.

I was on the fence about whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars but went with 4 after seeing all these harsh reviews on Yelp! Carino's is a great restaurant on par with (if not slightly better than) places like Olive Garden or Carrabba's. For being another Italian restaurant chain, I think Carino's has just a bit more character. Their bread is delicious, people rave about the skilletinis but I much prefer the seafood pasta, the spicy shrimp'n'chicken, shrimp scampi, chicken scallopini, and pork chops. They also make a delightful cosmopolitan. I like how they don't shove the wine list down your throat like some *other* Italian chains. I've seen a couple reviews about poor service and generally I think they're service is wonderful. However, I have heard thru friends that ONCE in a while they have bad service but more often than not I've had only positive stories. I think this place is kinda off the beaten path (aka not a great location) and somewhat underappreciated. Give it a try!

Been here many times, went here today to treat my dad for Father's Day. Service was pretty slow - I asked for more olive oil for the (delicious!) bread and the waitress never brought it - but to be fair she was waiting on a lot of tables. I like the chicken scallopini but today I tried the bowtie festival, minus the bacon and onions, and it was very good. For lunch, if you add 50 cents on to the price, you can get unlimited soup or salad, which I did even though I'm not a huge salad fan. The house dressing was a vinaigrette but kinda spicy. Not a bad place to come for lunch, the food is always good and prices are decent. Normally the service is better, too, though the waitress today was friendly (just slow service). I will say that a manager or someone came over with a fresh iced tea for my dad because it "looked like he needed a new one," and I was impressed by that.

Service was so slow and there were only 7 other tables suffering the same fate, I shaved before I went and had a beard by the time we escaped, the potato garlic soup was the highlight of a bland, tasteless meal, my wives meal was just as tasteless and she was not as lucky as me to have ordered the potato soup.

I came here about 7 years ago, you know, back when the Pistons shocked the world and beat the LA Lakers in the NBA Championship? When the Tampa Bay Lightning were Stanley Cup Champions?? Yeah, that long ago I guess. Speaking of hockey, we came out here before hockey games to carbo-load. I have to say only good things about this restaurant. My friend and I would come in here before our games, get the spaghetti and have ourselves several helpings of the bread with olive oil when we dined in. I loved it, the service was great, the food was delicious and it was reasonably priced. It's also not overly difficult to find from major roads, considering that we were coming from out of town into West Bloomfield to play hockey.

The bread was awesome! The service was very poor. Our food came out lukewarm, and was lacking in great flavor. My drink was gone for 10 minutes before I got a refill after asking. We told them about the warm food and they did nothing about it. I had wanted to go to Olive Garden for my birthday and we decided to give them a chance as they are where we are moving to. We were very disappointed and will not be going back. Olive Garden is much better.

my parents came down to visit us and on a whim we decided to visit Carino's. It literally has been over a year since i've been to the commerce location. 1st impressions: the menu is different. it seems paired down an some favorites are absent And prices are higher than I remember. 2nd impression: the waiter quality has gone down hill. I immediately felt like the gentleman we had waiting our table is a moron. Normally thru the meal the waiter would come by with things like extra napkins or drink refills without anyone asking. Not so today, Had to several times ask an re ask for things. 3rd impression: the wait. its much slower waiting for items after ordering. I have no clue what was the holdup, the restaurant was not busy, mostly just early dinner crowd. 4th impression: the food has changed from what i remember. In the past I could get a Bow Tie Pasta festival and never finish the serving - I would always have some to take home. no this time the portions are smaller. my wife's eggplant parmesan was good for her. but as always the forgot to bring her extra sauce she wanted. my father loved his combo skilletini but he was disappointed as there was mostly pasta an not enough sausage an veges. my mom loved her special pizza, and she could only eat 2 slices. Overall there were hit or miss things that detracted from the experience. I expected more from Carino's... and all we received was sub par chain quality italian food.

One of our go-to places in the area. I've had pastas, fish, chicken, and salads - always fresh and tasty. Warm, fresh bread with olive oil comes with the meal. The ambience is great because it's cozy and nicely decorated, but has enough noise level that we feel comfortable bringing our small children. Service is friendly and prompt. Once, after we ordered, the server returned to tell my dad they were out of what he ordered. He chose something else, and to compensate for the inconvenience, he was given a free dessert. Now that's great service!

They don't have a ton of decent restaurants in this part of Commerce, this is a pretty decent restaurant. This is the first time I've been to a Johnny Carino's in Michigan, I've just been to Carino's in Texas before. As soon as we got the drinks they came in with warm bread that must have finished baking just minutes earlier, it was so moist and had good flavor and was perfect when dipped in their olive / pepper mix. It was a great start, we then had the bruschetta as appetizer and also their caesar salad. Their bruschetta was quite good, not the best one I've had but we finished it! The caesar salad was REALLY good, one of the better caesar salad's I've had so I started having big expectation how our experience would turn out. I love their jalapeno garlic tilapia and I was hoping it would be as good as it was when I've had it at a Carino's in Dallas. It was very moist and had lot's of butter, to the point of too much better. I really couldn't taste any jalapeno nor even see any jalapeno and that's what I think really makes this dish. I'm not a fan of tilapia normally which was disappointing. All in all, it was a pretty good evening and we will definitely give it another shot. I'll just have to find another dish that they make it better here.

My boyfriend and I went around 830 pm. We were seated right away, yet the booth seats had grease stains from previous customers. I asked a lady to clean them off for us and she did. The waiter asked us what we wanted to drink, we both ordered waters, and they did not come for at least ten minutes. The waiter failed to keep up with our water refills in a timely manner. I had to wait a few minutes in between each empty water glass to receive the next one. I ordered make your own pizza. I ordered 2 meat toppings on the whole pizza, and a vegetable on half. The waiter said the cook did not read the order right and they made the pizza with half veggie, half meat on mistake, he asked if that was okay, and said in order for them to make another pizza would take another 10-15 minutes. I took the wrong pizza anyways. He did not comp the pizza or discount the bill in any way. Needless to say, we will never be returning.

We have been to this resturant many many times and have loved it. However, the last time we went it was a horrible experience. We had met a couple of friends there for dinner on a Fridayh night - they had already got a table waiting for us. When we had arrived, our friends had been waiting at the table for 10 minutes without menus, drinks or silverware. We had been at the table another 10 minutes before our waiter came over with water, he then had to go "track down" some menus for us. When he came back with the menus (another 5-10 minutes later) we put in our drink order and requested another bread basket as we were starving. He had come back to get our dinner order immediately - we put it in and litterally waitied 20 minutes until he came back to tell us the kitchen staff was backed up and our order would be our shortly. Another five minutes went by, and he brought out only half of our order. He said that the other half would be out in a few minutes, by this time we were very upset and starving! After waiting another 15 minutes, the remaining food had come out. Howerver, this is the icing on the cake....I went to take my first bite and found a LONG BLACK hair in my dish! I grabbed another waiter and asked to see the manager. She then came over to apologize and asked if she could get me anything else, discgusted i declined. She then took care of our bill, but this was truely a horrible experience. I explained our experience to her, fand she said it was not a typical night and the kitchen was backed up. Not an excuse in my book, we will not be going back to this resturant again. It is such a shame as this was one of our favorite places to go.

It honestly makes me sad that this place is never busy. I have gone on peak days and it has never been even close to full. It might be the location (it is in an awkward spot off a service drive). I can't imagine that the servers here are able to make a decent living since they don't get any tables! This place isn't quite as good as Carrabba's but it is pretty close. The bread and oil is delicious, as is the Caesar salad. I have ordered spaghetti and lasagna before, and my significant other has ordered two pasta dishes. We have been happy with our meals both times.

Twice now we've been here and they forget to bring new drinks for the kids, refills on the salad, and take forever to bring drinks initially. I used to like this place but this was the last time for us. Poor service and mediocre food I can get anywhere. No need to come here for that.

I'm happy at happy hour! We stopped in before a trip to Costco (we weren't in the mood for hot dogs and slushies) and got happy when we saw pizza's were half price, even on weekends and their yummy bellini was only $4 bucks. The pizza's were good, service was a bit slow but that's ok we were enjoying an afternoon out but with a check that was under $20.00 for two people with two dishes and two beverages, that'll bring out the happy in anyone. Good Job Carino's!

Carino's is your typical chain Italian restaurant, but for a quick meal or carry out it is A-OK. As far as chains go, I would definitely pick Carino's over Olive Garden. That isn't really a compliment I suppose, but again for a quick Italian meal it is good. They have great fresh baked bread with a tasty olive oil dip. The pasta and salads are fresh, but nothing makes them special. The service can be slow and I think they hit up the local high schools to recruit... many inexperienced servers with a clear lack of training. The inside of the restaurant it nicely furnished, country Italian style, but they don't keep it very clean. The bathrooms are often dirty and the floors are extra greasy. Overall I don't mind stopping in for carry out, but there are better Italian restaurants in the area... Antonio's on 12 Mile comes to mind.

I love this place! As a vegetarian, it's close by and they actually list their nutrition online so I can think of what I can order ahead of time. Either way, I always order the same thing; angel hair pasta with artichokes (this dish has made me a true lover of artichokes, I eat them often now), it's very good! The servers are always very nice and I always ask for no black olives and light on capers which they do. Their bread with olive oil is delicious, yum! I recommend this place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
